Admission for Returning Students

Please complete one short application form for each returning student.


Admission for New Students

Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School a Canadian not-for-profit institution that is open to everyone and has the same admission requirements and tuition fees for everyone, Canadian citizens and internationals residing in Canada under any legal status.

Admission to Kindergarten (JK & SK)

Age and Maturity Requirement
• 4 years old for JK & 5 years old for SK, by December 31
• Toilet-trained
• Understand and follow simple instructions.
Additional Requirement for SK
• Previously enrolled in school/daycare or has basic knowledge letters and numbers.

Admission Process
To efficiently complete the admission process, please follow the steps below:
1. Pay the Admission fee of $150 as a deposit.
  – If the student passes the interview and is enrolled, the $150 deposit goes towards the Admission Fee.
  – If the student passes the interview but parents decide not to enroll their child, the $150 deposit is not refunded.
  – If the student does not pass the interview and is not enrolled, the $150 deposit is fully refunded.

2. Schedule an informal in-person interview with a current kindergarten teacher.
  Parents are asked to bring to the interview any records of the student with their current school, daycare, or educational institution.
  The purpose of this interview is to:
  – Assess whether the child meets the admission requirements or not, and
  – Provide the parents with essential information on preparing for the school year.

3. Complete and email one long application form for each new student to info@abischool.com.
  For international and out-of-town students:
  This interview can be done upon arrival to Ottawa.
  Once the application is reviewed and accepted, the student can be guaranteed a spot.
  For international and out-of-town students:
  An enrollment letter can be provided after paying the enrollment fee via PayPal or money transfer.

Additional Documents
• Proof of birth date for their child.
  A copy will be kept in the student’s Ontario Student Record (OSR) file.
  Acceptable documents are:
  Birth certificate, Birth registration form, Citizenship certificate, Passport, or any national/provincial identification document/card.

• Updated Immunization Form for the child.

Admission to All Other Grades (1 – 10)

Admission Process
To efficiently complete the admission process, please follow the steps below:
1. Pay the Admission fee of $150 as a deposit.
  – If the student passes the entrance exam and is enrolled, the $150 deposit goes towards the Admission Fee.
  – If the student passes the entrance exam but parents decide not to enroll their child, the $150 deposit is not refunded.
  – If the student does not pass the entrance exam and is not enrolled, the $150 deposit is fully refunded.

2. Schedule an in-person entrance exam in English and Math.
  Parents are asked to bring to the test any records of the student with their current school or educational institution.
  The test covers curriculum learned during the previous school year.

3. Complete and email one long application form for each new student to info@abischool.com.
  For international and out-of-town students:
  This interview can be done upon arrival to Ottawa.
  Once the application is reviewed and accepted, the student can be guaranteed a spot.
  For international and out-of-town students:
  An enrollment letter can be provided after paying the enrollment fee via PayPal or money transfer.

Very Important

Admission to the school year is a 10-months commitment.
This is not a monthly tuition system.
Tuition fees are for the entire school year (10 months) and fees are expected to be paid for the 10 months.
We only offer a monthly payment option for your convenience.

Early Departures
Students leaving before end of school year, for unexpected circumstances, must submit a written or email notice, to the office at info@abischool.com, 2 months before their departure date.
Fees must be paid in full for these 2 months.


Quality Education

Ahlul-Bayt Islamic School teaches the full curriculum recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education. In order to build solid language foundations, Kindergarten subjects are mainly taught in English with more focus on French than in higher grades.
In addition, we teach our students Islamic Education and Arabic Language, both of which are introduced in JK.
Our school is recognized for providing high quality education year after year, since 2002.
We’ve been consistently ranked by the Fraser Institute in the top 3 schools in Ottawa, top 3% in the province of Ontario.
In 2016 and 2018, we ranked #1 in Ottawa.

Islamic Environment

In terms of the Islamic environment, our school focuses on providing quality education in an Islamic environment.
Muslim students feel comfortable with their surroundings and how to become good citizens.
Our programs include:
• Teaching Islamic and moral values and good social behavior
• Teaching how to do prayers, perform daily and Friday prayers, as well as occasional mosque visits for some grades
• Teaching cleanliness and good hygiene, especially to boys and girls entering takleef stage .
• Teaching Quran reading for older grades, Quran memorization for younger grades, and tafseer for all grades.
• Following the Shia Ithna Asheri teachings of Ahlul-Bayt (AS)
• Recognition and celebration of special Islamic events and Islamic holidays
• Support, special programs, and reduced workload during the month of Ramadan and Ashura, and more.


Specialized Instructions

Unfortunately, our school does not have the financial or human resources to support students with Individualized Educational Plans (IEP), or those requiring specialized instructions, special educational services (ESL program), or special modifications and accommodations.


Transportation

The school does not provide busses.
Most parents make carpool arrangements among each other.
Some parents and non-parent individuals provide this service for a fee.


Admissions for International Students

ABIS has the same enrollment requirements (above) for Canadian and International students.
We can issue enrollment letters to students who meet the admission requirements and pay the non-refundable admission fee of $150 per student.
Information about Visa requirements is provided by the Canadian embassy in the respective country of the applicant.
The school is not able to assist with any legal, immigration, or visa procedures.

School and Tuition Fees

Our fees are the same for everyone, Canadian citizens and internationals residing in Canada under any legal status.

Every cent collected from parents is spent on paying the cost of educating our students.
